An afternoons journey in
May 2003 Donna & I made our way to the North end of Main
Street, just 3 blocks from our front door to the relatively new
pedestrian walkway out over the Missouri River. I had stumbled across
mention of this wonderful attraction by happenstance. Even though it was
built under our very noses, our amazing City Fathers had failed to
communicate to us or most anyone else we know in the neighborhood the
existence of this multi-million $$$ project built to help bring the
Riverfront of KC back to life. As usual those in power are totally
disconnected from reality at ground zero. KC's city government is a
bunch of lame-assed corporate pimps and this is the perfect example of
just how lame they are. They actually bring to fruition a project of
real worth, but don't have the wit to tell anyone about it!
The Pedestrian Overlook is a great spot to spend some time, and
supposedly it will eventually be a extension along the bike trail that
now runs through nearby Riverfront Park.
We also took a jaunt a
few mile to the East to see the old Northeast Neighborhood of KC. This
beautiful area lies just North of Independence Avenue along the tops of
the South Bluffs of the Missouri River. From it's edge you can catch a
great view out over the river and the railroad yards towards North
Kansas City. There are many wonderful old homes in the area and down
below along the hillside is Cliff Drive - a great scenic byway and
convenient spot to dump a wayward body - as the KCPD will attest.
The beautiful, forgotten area of Northeast Kansas City. Formerly KC's
little Italy - upon the hill overlooking the Missouri River and the
North Bottoms. The hillside below the brush is Cliff Drive, a wonderful
park and learning center for many a KC bred rock climber, including Ben
the Webmaster...
From our fire escape we can see the hillside to
our east about 1 mile.
